I provide the highest level of care while utilizing the most current evidence and technology and collaborating with other caregivers. I partner with my patients in their journey with cancer, advocating for them as we work together to help them live better.
Dr. Smile was drawn to the Mission and culture of OSF HealthCare as he aspires to provide compassionate service to patients. He is also impressed by how the oncology program has created a culture of reverence and excellence in caring for those with cancer.
“Since most patients already have a cancer diagnosis by the time we first meet, I like to provide time and space for them to share their experience leading to that first appointment,” said Dr. Smile.
“I take time to establish rapport and trust before helping my patients understand their entire diagnostic and treatment program, not only the radiation portion of their care. I want them to know that I make recommendations based on the most current evidence and ultimately based on what I would want for myself or my family members.”
He was drawn to radiation oncology by the patients themselves, in particular by observing innumerable instances of bravery, resolve and dignity amid intimidating diagnoses and treatments.
Dr. Smile grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his wife is from Peoria. They met while studying in a music conservatory together. They have three young children, and he enjoys spending time outside with his family, reading, playing piano, playing golf, and woodworking.
