I treat my patients as if they are my own family members. My patients are my priority. I put their interests before my own. I communicate with them using empathy.
"OSF is home to me. I cannot imagine working in a different place," Dr. Raman said.
"The staff and my co-workers are very compassionate and friendly. One beautiful philosophical concept of OSF is that every person was made in the image of God. This means that every one is the embodiment of the Divine. We will treat our patients well when we remember this concept."
Dr. Raman was in eighth grade when she decided to go into medicine.
"There was a lot of suffering and sickness in the place where I lived in India. Even as a child I was extremely compassionate," she said.
"I chose to specialize in primary care because it is holistic in nature and integrates all other specialties. Primary care is also about disease prevention, health promotion and wellness," Dr. Raman said.
"With the right advice to patients, primary care physicians can help prevent or modify the risk factors for diseases like, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and pulmonary embolism."
